A home where light meets structure

This Marin County renovation transforms a modest home into a light-filled retreat defined by dramatic exposed timber framing. The design celebrates structural beams and trusses as the defining architectural gesture while introducing skylights that flood the interior with natural light and create seamless connections to the landscape.

Exposed Timber Structure

Dramatic Douglas fir beams, trusses, and tongue-and-groove ceiling planking transform the structural system into the home's defining architectural element.

Expansive Kitchen

A central island and adjacent peninsula feature contrasting cabinetry—crisp white uppers and muted navy lowers—with geometric relief-tile backsplashes that add texture without competing with the timber above.

Custom Tile Fireplace

A floor-to-ceiling white tile chimney with floating wood shelving creates a vertical anchor in the living space, balancing the strong horizontal lines of the exposed beams

Joe and Sonja

They took what was a dark, cramped house and opened it up completely. The exposed beams are incredible—everyone who walks in stops and looks up. The way light moves through the space now is just beautiful.
